Understanding Depression in Children and Teens
Depression in children and teens can often look different from what we expect, and it goes beyond occasional sadness or mood swings. It’s a serious mental health condition that affects how your child thinks, feels, and behaves. They may withdraw, show a lack of interest in activities they once enjoyed, or struggle with low energy and concentration. This can be confusing or concerning for parents, especially when typical communication breaks down.
It's important to understand that depression is not a reflection of your parenting or something your child can simply "snap out of." It’s a complex condition, often caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. With the right support, including therapy and lifestyle adjustments, your child can learn to manage their depression and lead a healthy, fulfilling life.
If you’re worried about your child, don’t hesitate to reach out. Early intervention is key to helping them feel better and preventing symptoms from worsening.
